Teachers and Staff: Happy Saturday!

Off-week Reminder

Our next off-week is over the Christmas / New Year holidays, from December 23 - January 2. No regularly-scheduled lessons during this period.

Recitals Q & A

Q: When should students begin preparing for recitals?

A: Students should always be preparing for recitals. Students should perpetually be developing and perfecting their repertoire of memorized and performable music. When recitals come, they should be picking what pieces they will perform from their repertoire of prepared music.

All music students should be able to perform a variety of music at all times. All music students should develop repertoire that they can perform “anytime, anywhere!”... at the drop of a hat… or, when someone asks, “Can you play something for us?!” The answer is, Yes! Music students and musicians should perform the same pieces again and again, for many audiences, in many settings, not just once for “The Recital.” Music students and musicians should perform music that feels easy.

This is part of the reason we don’t “pass pieces.” This will be a regular discussion topic!

Teacher Seminars Coming Soon!

Thank you to those who have responded so far!

I will be hosting a teacher seminar on Thursday, January 2, 2025. This is the day after New Year, and also the last day of our off-week over those holidays. (We have regular lessons again starting on Friday, January 3.)

Teacher seminars are available to all teachers, including teachers who do not presently have students. Teacher seminars are paid, and totally optional. You can attend as few or as many as you wish. Sessions will be 50 minutes each and be in the range of 1:00 to 6:00 pm.

This schedule is tentative. Actual sessions will be determined and firmed up once I see the interest levels. If you express interest, please pencil into your calendar but be aware there may be changes. I know that some teachers will not be available at this day/time. We will have more seminars as we go along, and I try to vary the days and times. Please use this form to express your interest and availability. Please respond as soon as possible so we can plan ahead.

Special Theme Recital coming in January

Yes! Your student can participate in Theme recitals!
All levels, ages, instruments, and styles are welcome and encouraged!
Students wishing to participate in this recital should already have their selections made and near ready to perform. Please discuss with your students, and make sure you are supporting students participating in recitals.

And Yes! Teachers may participate, too! Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to perform.

HVAC

Use the heat and air conditioning in the suites, but follow these guidelines:

  1. Don’t turn On the central fan. Leave it set to Auto. (If you turn it on it does not turn off automatically, it runs forever.) If you must turn on the fan for some reason, please turn it off when you exit.

  2. Please check the heat and air when you are the last person to leave a suite. Please turn off the heat and air.

Food and Drink - Liquids in the Trash Cans

Food and drink (except bottled water) should be consumed in the 108 craft area, or outside at the tables. If you discard any drinks, please make sure the container is empty before putting it into a waste basket or trash can. Liquids in the trash can become a disaster!

Please don’t leave bottles of water or other trash strewn around the studio.

Printer / Copier in the 108 Crafts Area

We have moved the printer / copier into the 108 waiting room so that we can more easily access it when lessons are happening in 107. It is the Sharp MX 3140-N printer. You can also use this machine to scan documents. Instructions for how to do this will be found in the Teachers Resource binder, and you can also ask someone who knows.

Statutory Compliance for Employees

Employees will receive notice from ADP to complete mandatory training sessions online. This is to comply with state laws. Please complete as necessary. Completing these training sessions is paid work. Please try to do them during down time at the studio. If this cannot be done, please complete at home and log your hours. They should not take more than a couple of hours in total to complete.
